Sharks wing, Jaco van Tonder recently joined the senior side and is making a huge impact. He is known as the “full box of tricks” as he is so versatile. We caught up with Jaco after a round of golf in sunny Durban.
What do you do on your day off?
I like to play some golf or go to one of Durban’s lovely beaches.
What is the best part of playing rugby?
Meeting new people and making friends

Is there any one that inspires you?
Surfing of fishing?
I grew up at the coast so it will have to be Surfing
When did you start to play rugby?
At the age of 6
What are your goals for the next 2 years?
I want to play myself into a starting position at the Sharks. Every player wants to play for the Springboks one day and so do I!!
What are your plans for life after rugby?
I want to travel a bit then open my own business. I also want to be able to give back to rugby so perhaps some coaching.
What do you eat on a game day?
Has to be a Spaghetti Bolognese
Do you listen to music before the game?
Yes, some Hip Hop and a bit of Afrikaans music.
What keeps you motivated?
I keep telling myself how lucky I am to play rugby. I just want to be the best I can be in whatever I do. I want to be remembered as a role model.
