USM caught up with EP Centre, Shane Gates…

How was this season for you?

It was an average season by our standards and under the circumstances we’ve had I think we did really really well , the boys never allowed the situation around them to effect their performance and theta was probably the most inspiring thing , but personally also a frustrating and disappointing one as I was injured in the third game of Vodacom cup and have missed the rest of the year because of it ..

How is the injury now?

I had an operation on it about three weeks ago to help strengthen it and in hopes that it recovers quicker so I’m hopefully up and running by January ..
Good stuff, what are you going to take from this season to the next?

I guess I’ll try and avoid injury as much as I can haha but also try and not take anything for granted , being injured for this long gives you a lot of perspective and makes you appreciate what you do so much more. I’ll also try and stay as fit and as strong as I can to give myself the best chance to play every game that I can

Goals for next season?

To try and play as many games as I can in and be the best possible influence I can be within kings rugby ..

Who do you look upto in the team?

Gary van Aswegen, Ronnie Cooke, Schalk Ferreira and Scott van Breda but there are so many others I could name.
