Jean Luc du Plessis, flyhalf for Sharks U19 squad has made quite an impact since his debut in early 2013. Known for his innovative plays, exciting flair and his try scoring celebration dance, Jean Luc took time out to chat to us about loving life in sunny Durban.
What do you do on your day off?
Just lie around and take naps or play PS3 or go to the beach.
What is the best part of playing rugby for you?
Playing with your mates and the camaraderie. Expressing yourself on the field and winning always makes every thing better.
Your dream teammate?
Aaron Cruden!! We play a very similar game and we would understand one another, we would be on the same wavelength.
Is there anyone in particular that inspires you?
Definitely my father.
Surfing of fishing?
I struggle with fishing, as I don’t have the patience. I cannot surf but I would choose it over fishing as it a much cooler sport in my view.
When did you start to play rugby?
Ever since I could walk I can remember having a rugby ball in my hand.
What are your goals for the next 2 years?
To play for the baby Boks, and to hopefully, be knocking on the door for the Currie Cup team in 2015.
What are you plans for life after rugby?
Well I think it would be my dream to coach and still be involved in rugby after my playing days are over.
What do you eat on a game day?
Anything really…. I am not big on eating the right things before a game…. I might have some Future life, flapjacks or pancakes also some eggs and then bananas.
What music do you listen to?
Hip-hop and rap
What keeps you motivated?
Ah well I have a great desire to be the best… and it comes from within and that keeps me motivated.
Pizza with bacon and avocado.
Over Christmas, we go to the “Groot brak”river. Otherwise skiing in Austria.
Do you have a pet?
Yes I have a pet monkey named uncle Wilfie
What is your favorite car?
I drive my favourite car… a faded gold 1997 Opel Astra (aka the silver fern)
