Jean Kleyn chats…

March 10, 2014

Intelligent and motivational is how his team mates describe him. Jean Kleyn burst onto the scene in 2012 and is quickly making a name for himself. We chatted to the popular lock about his recent injury and how to keep sane during trying times.

How is the injury looking what happened?

I tore my ankle ligaments in the game against Boland and I am now 2 weeks into my recovery with hopefully another 6 to go.

When do you think you will be back on the field?

I would hope another 6 weeks.

Plans for recovery?

I am currently at the Western Province rugby institute doing rehab with Johan Van Wyk. Right now I am focusing on my upper body; gyming until I am allowed to start rehab with my ankle.

Best and worst thing about being injured?

Best thing- is getting weekends off

Worst thing- right now it would missing out on the Stormers tour. Devastated about that.

How are you keeping busy?

Obviously the training with Johan keeps me busy, but I can’t really do much as I am in a boot so a lot of X box and TV. I am getting really good at Call of Duty.

Who do you think will end in the top 4 in this Super Rugby competition?

In no particular order I would say Stormers, Crusaders, Chiefs and Sharks

Who do you think will be the top point scorer?

With the boot definitely Martinz Boshoff

Who are your role models?

Duane Vermeulen because he has been a great teacher to me since I was pulled up.

Which team did you support when you were younger?

I supported the Lions because I was born in JHB.

If you were not playing rugby what would you want to do?

I would say Engineering.
