Gutsy Tyrone Holmes big future

November 15, 2013

Tyrone Holmes destined for Scottish national side

Gutsy Flank Tyrone Holmes, joined the Glasgow Warriors in September this year after playing Super Rugby for the Stormers. The 27 year old South African is eligible to play for Scotland through his father and was ever present for Western Province when they won both the Vodacom Cup and Currie Cup in 2012.

Definitely a player to look out for on the international stage.

How is life in Glasgow, Scotland?

Glasgow is great. It’s an extremely beautiful and friendly city with a really good social and live music scene. If you are bored at home you can always head out and find something to do. About the weather though…we’ll it’s a little different to Cape Town! Hahaha it’s gone from about 12 degrees last week to about 6 this week. And winter hasn’t even really set in yet! So not ideal, but nothing a few pairs of thermal skins can’t fix!

Best game you have had so far?

Best game I’ve played so far has to be my Heineken Cup debut against Exeter Chiefs. It was a great win in front of a packed Scotstoun stadium. I ended up getting Man of the Match which was a huge cherry on the top

3 favourite things about living in Scotland?

· It’s an extremely beautiful place!

· It’s so close to all the places and countries that I want to travel to

· it’s given me an opportunity to enjoy my rugby and take my career to the next level.

What do you get up to in your off time?

I don’t get up to to much in my spare time. I’m usually pretty tired from a tough days training. I have just picked up my guitar from Italy so at the moment I’m really enjoying playing that, and there’s always a few boys heading down to Nando’s , out for a coffee, or to the cinema, if I want to get out!

Goals for the rest of the season?

I have a few personal goals but one of my big goals for the rest of the season is consistency. I feel that I’m playing some good rugby. And I’m getting great feedback. So I just want to keep that up, keep working hard and sharpening my game. I’m really enjoying my rugby at the moment.

If I get those things right I hope it’s going to be tough to deny me a spot in the Scotland squad.

What do you miss most about SA?

Well there’s a lot I miss about SA. Biltong, braaivleis, the beach… But the main thing is my family and friends. I miss getting to spend time with them. Especially going for runs and training with my brother!

What country are you looking forward to going to next and what are you going there for?

Hmm.. If all goes well there’s 2 places I’m looking forward to going to next- Amsterdam is one, and Greece is the other. There’s a lot of history and things to see in Amsterdam. I’ve heard it’s got sort of a ‘venetian’ feel about it.. And I love Venice! And Greece because of its white beaches and awesome weather! Want to get in some sun before I head back home to SA for a winter holiday .
