Exclusive with Dillyn Leyds

March 9, 2015

Stormers wing, Dillyn Leyds has started the Super Rugby season with two impressive tries. His impressive individual try scored against the Blues saw him getting the ball on the half way line, beating two defenders and surging through the space to score in the corner. We asked him a little about his mojo.

How is the spirit in the team?

The team spirit is good. We have a lot of young guys in the team which brings out so much energy. Always time for a joke or 2 but we know when to be serious as well.

Happy to be back in SA?

Very happy to be back home yeah. Now I know why people love this beautiful city of Cape Town so much.

Best thing about being home?

The best thing about being at home again is definitely seeing friends and family but besides that just being able to have a braai and some braaivleis as well, is a pretty good reason to be home.

Talk us through that first try in Pretoria?

I would just say that’s pure luck. The ball dropped in front of me and I was quick to pick it up and sprint a few metres. It happened so quickly but it’s a moment I’ll treasure forever.

The second one even more amazing….. how did that happen?

Still trying to find out whether my eyes were open when I caught the ball haha. Was just a great dummy line by Groomy and it held one defender so the old fashioned show and go, worked for me. Not too sure about my dive though haha

What will make the Stormers win the competition?

It’s still a long season ahead and anything can happen but we have a lot of belief in our squad. The boys are all just buying into the style of play and always willing to go the extra mile for each other. If we can keep getting better week in and week out and stay on the winning side, I think we could be up there for title contenders come the end of the season.

Thanks Dill and all the best for the rest of the season.

Cheers thanx guys.
