Sharks strongman Jean Deysel says he hopes 2014 will be the year that he does enough to catch Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer’s eye.
“Playing for the Springboks again is definitely something that burns in me,” Deysel – who represented South Africa in four Tests – tells MyPlayers in an exclusive interview. “But obviously that is something that I am focussing on in the immediate future.
“My only focus is on the Sharks and our Super Rugby campaign. I think we have a lot of encouraging thing that we bring into the new season from 2013 and I am looking forward to build on what I thought was a good season for me last year,” says Deysel.
“I truly believe that if I keep on chipping away with strong performances for the Sharks and I keep on giving my best, the Springbok coach will have to notice and another opportunity in the Green and Gold will come.
“That is why I am still here. I love my rugby, I love the culture at the Sharks and I absolutely love Durban.
“I managed to go through the 2013 season relatively injury-free, which was a refreshing change for me and I was really involved in everything and hopefully I can have more of the same in the new year.”
