Captain Coetzee

August 14, 2014

SA Schools captain, Jaco Coetzee, chats to Union Sports Mag about his new role as Captain and the road ahead….

How is training going so far?

Training is going very well, all the systems are in place, the intensity is high when it needs to be and the squad is fitting together nicely.

What is the best part of the SA Schools squad being able to be here and train together?

The best part is when everyone laughs together! We are really enjoying the training sessions if something happens and we can all laugh about it, it lifts the mood and improves us as a team. The best of all is seeing guys giving high 5’s and the team really coming together in that.

How does it feel being the Captain and how do you think it will affect your game?

I don’t think it will change my game the only thing that will change is that I will be the player that will have to lead everyone on the field and control the players. So I will have to keep focused!

Which game do you think will be the toughest?

Personally I believe all 3 games will be tough and that there won’t be an easy one, it is test rugby after all and test rugby is on a different level and that is the most difficult level I believe.

What are your future rugby goals?

I have signed with WP for 2 years so I will be with them for my junior career. I want to make the most of that so that I can make the SA U20 side and represent my country again but in a more senior level!

Thanks Jaco and all the best!!

Cheers.
